Attachment theory &
Internal Family SYstems (IFS)
What is Attachment Theory?
Attachment theory describes the neurobiological and social process of human connection both to early caregivers as well as how that impacts connection to self and others ongoing. ARC therapists who use attachment exploration as a tool support clients understanding of how they respond to conflict and safety in relationships, as well as ways to explore secure attachment in their current relationships.
Internal Family systems
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an evidence based model that explores early experiences that are internalized that express themselves as part of the individual.
“We believe the mind is naturally multiple and that is a good thing. Our inner parts contain valuable qualities and our core Self knows how to heal, allowing us to become integrated and whole. In IFS all parts are welcome.” IFS Institute
In IFS, healing occurs when the parts of self are able to be present at the same time, seen and valued, and supported towards integration. IFS has seen to be particularly supportive with trauma work, particularly complex trauma, and can be used in conjunction with other therapy modalities including DBT, RODBT, and Somatic Experiencing.
