Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Do you accept insurance?
ARC offers private pay services which means you will pay for each therapy session yourself. We love to support folks in getting therapy within their budget and do provide superbills as an “OUT OF NETWORK” (OON) service for their insurance to then reimburse them personally.
Your insurance may cover OON services, and it’s important to ask them before getting started if you’d like to be reimbursed. If you need support, we also recommend using a service like Mentaya, and our therapists can support you in any information you need to do so.
All of our therapists usually see 10-20% of their caseload at a sliding scale rate for those whose insurance will not provide any reimbursement and there is financial need (related to loss of job, loss of income, or other resources). You can ask ahead if the therapist has sliding scale spots available at this time. We offer sliding scale spots for a year of therapy work, and you may be considered for a second year if your therapist offers it. Sliding scale rates can range anywhere between $50 - $150 depending on what each therapist has available.
What are your rates?
ARC therapists see clients at different rates depending on the therapy services provided as well as level of training. Each therapist has a full fee rate that we assess every odd year related to experience and best business practices so that our therapists are able to make a sustainable living wage. The range for therapy at ARC for individual therapy at the full fee rate is between $90 (for interns) to $200 (our Senior Clinicians and Clinical Director). Family therapy and couples therapy has an increased cost depending on the clinician and is between $125 (for interns) to $250.
Our RO + DBT Program has different rates that include coordination of individual and group therapy, possible coaching support out of session, and support for family members. You can get more information about the program and ask about those rates in the free 15 minute consultation call we offer.
Do I need a diagnosis?
Our therapists can explore and support you by affirming a diagnosis that you can have on your superbill if you’d like submit that to your insurance. Some clients prefer not to have a diagnosis on file, and you are not required to have a diagnosis on file at ARC in order to receive therapeutic support.
If I’m working with an intern or Fellow, How are they supervised and trained?
All our interns and associate therapists are working towards, or have completed, their masters level in counseling or social work and are working towards full licensure. They have also intensively trained in several modalities to support their work with you. For transparency, you can see all of their training on their individual bio pages. Each intern or fellow is both supervised and trained by the ARC supervisory team as well as an individual supervisor either at ARC or externally, or order to support you further. Your information is confidential within that meeting. They meet with the team or individual supervisor weekly to discuss their work and get support as they complete their training. We are highly specific about who we hire and train and both trust and provide accountability for their work. If you have any questions about this process, ask them! They’d love to share with you! With any further concerns, you can reach out to the ARC Clinical Director, Nia Baker LPC CPCS at contact@atlarc.org.
How do I know my therapist is a good fit?
How you feel about it matters! We believe the connection between therapist and client is vital for supportive therapeutic work. ARC values training, experience, and rapport building with each client in order to work together on collective goals. We offer at free 15 minute consultation to get to know a therapist before you schedule your first appointment so you can ask questions and get a feel of our therapists’ energy, personality, and way to describing their work. Therapy is an ongoing relationship and all our therapists are committed to continued open feedback about the work together as life continues to change around us.
What is an individual therapy session like?
Our intake sessions are primarily focused on learning more about your history or goals. After that, the next few sessions will help deepen that work and introduce strategies, skills, or practices in session to increase insight, both intellectually and “felt sense” somatically. You’ll discuss with your therapists the balance between processing through words and trying some experiences together to learn what will most support your learning.
How long will it take me to meet my goals?
We all have an internal desire to know how long something will take; it’s a great strategy for managing anxiety and helping us feel safe! However, at times that focus solely can prevent experiencing the present moment and noticing what needs attention and the quality of attention that will support change. The therapy process may bring some discomfort that we encourage to deepen learning. Some clients find that meeting with their therapist, if it’s discussing a simple, single event, may feel complete after 6-8 sessions. We often work with complex trauma or relationships at ARC and, in those cases, it’s typically more effective to slow down and spend a longer amount of time because the patterns are deeper and need more support for change. It’s common in these instances to work with a therapist for at least a year to see the change you’d like.
Our goal is to help you feel like to you completed the work you want to do and we will do our best to support you and recommend additional support as we see it needed. You’ll meet with your therapist and discuss this question when you first meet and they’ll often recommend, based on your goals, either weekly or biweekly therapy to get started. They may recommend a certain amount of time in therapy as well. After that, you’ll check in to see how it’s progressing as you reflect on what you’re experiencing, learning, and what feels like new life and change.
Do you offer virtual therapy options?
Yes! Some therapists offer quite a lot of virtual options, others may have fewer virtual spots available. We find it may be helpful for some clients to come in person for their first few sessions if that’s possible, but some clients will meet with their therapist virtually the entire time. Your therapist will discuss these options with you during the free 15 minute consultation so you can see how they may fit with your schedule and needs.
Where are you located?
Our office is located in historic Old 4th Ward, the neighborhood of the birthplace of MLK Jr. (now the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Park), right off the Beltline and close to Krog Street Market the artistic Studioplex building. We love our creative space, the outdoor areas around it, and the walking paths nearby.
What do I do if I Need to cancel or change my appointment?
Great question! Please email your therapist directly to let them know you need to change your appointment. We offer free cancellation outside of 24 hours. You can also visit your client portal to change, cancel, or schedule any appointments.
